With its two festival centres – around the Klangraum Krems Minoritenkirche in Krems-Stein and the one at the very centrally located exhibition grounds (Messegelände) – as well as many other venues, the donaufestival turns the small town of Krems on the Danube into a hotspot for contemporary art beyond all genre boundaries over six days.

The diverse Kunstmeile Krems can be experienced through cooperations, for example with the Kunsthalle Krems or the Forum Frohner. Other venues, such as museumkrems/Dominikanerkirche or the Kino im Kesselhaus, spread the festival events throughout the city. This is particularly noticeable during processions or performances in public spaces, or when special venues are added, such as the canteen of a sports club, the bicycle cellar of the Parkhotel or the garden of the Minorite monastery.
