Nadah El Shazly

Montreal-based producer and vocalist Nadah El Shazly, known for her fresh and fearless performances, is a prominent and captivating voice in the electronic music underworld of her hometown, Cairo.

Her debut album “Ahwar” both radically reinvents the popular music of her homeland and explores new sonic and harmonic frontiers. Using voice, field recordings and instruments she creates haunting sound pieces and song forms that hijack your perception of time. Backing up her release with extensive worldwide touring through a solo set and a four-piece band, Nadah has been featured in many local and international festivals, including Le Guess Who?, REWIRE, Irtijal, Nusasonic, Marfa Myths, among others. Nadah is currently working on her second album, and continues to compose for film and moving images. 

Nadah El Shazly began her career in a punk band in Cairo, but on her debut album Ahwar from 2018, she already devised an electropop that combined Arabic and Western styles. She layers her dramatic, melancholic vocals with field recordings and electronic instruments. After touring non-stop, she recently appeared as a guest on the latest album by industrial-gospel formation Algiers. Her own music has recently become increasingly harsher, expanding her musical spectrum in the spirit of noise. The single Ghorzetein has already been released, the new album Laini Tani will follow at the beginning of June.
