Decolonize Your Mind Society, an ensemble from Hungary, celebrates every kind of musical freedom and stages its performances as psychedelic rituals: Wearing shamanic masks, its members attempt to escape the structures and rules of classical European music through collective improvisation. They play stringed instruments tuned using only pure intervals and wind instruments without holes or precise notes, just a continuous opening that allows for limitless glissandos. The result is a soft, floating harmony of sounds that feels like an endless wave: You listen to musicians whose identities are completely situated in the collective experience and in making music of a completely different order.
