SOUND
The Indonesian duo Senyawa links traditional Javanese music with the drastic qualities of metal and techniques of the latest electronic avant-garde. Wukir Suryadi plays on self-built instruments like the bamboo spear, whose steel string sound is filtered and sometimes distorted into nasty cheeps; Rully Shabara sings along in his rumbling baritone vocals, which often tip over into black metal grunts and occasional submissive whimpers, too. Folklore and improvisation, ritualistic incantations and severe doom meditations merge in a way you have never heard before.
