SOUND

A season in hell, “une saison en enfer”: That’s where the Polish, Scotland-based singer and producer Ela Orleans wants to spend her time. The ghosts of Arthur Rimbaud, Aleister Crowley, and other dark figures float through her dreamy-nightmarish compositions, but she also interprets the tender, melancholic lyrics of Victorian poet Elizabeth Browning. Over sighs of organ rhythms, twitches of snares, and electronic chirps, she sings with a yearning voice nebulous songs that strive from the depths of history to the pinnacles of cognition and the unspeakable.
