His music is sublime and fragile; it is at once minimalist and rich in the diversity of textures; and even when played at the highest volumes, it retains its soft and subtle character. The US American composer and producer Rafael Anton Irisarri works with piano, guitar, and electronics. The growl of dark drones is scintillated with starry light – warm pulsating bass is overlaid with painful crackling like scratched vinyl. With what seems to be reduced means and modulations he creates vast soundscapes and towering spaces: Irisarri is a master of ambient architecture.
