SOUND

The recognition factor hasn’t faded a bit. Everyone who has ever gone dancing in a techno club knows the sounds: The analogue synthesizer TB-303 and the drum computer TR- 606 by the company Roland, which hit the market in 1982, infl uenced the beginnings of modern dance music like no other instruments. The sound researchers Carlo Maria and Caterina Barbieri, who perform together under the name Punctum, use these strangely familiar sounds to construct alien beat architectures that resonate in feedback loops: an ambiguous recourse to pop history beset with timeless auras.
