The title Late Metal (in the sense of a prolongation of the present) reads the same backwards as forwards – a palindrome. At the same time, the video by Elisabeth Kihlström refers to wilting utopias, the idea of pop culture that’s slacking behind, always late for the shock of the future. The historical consolidation of newness with the idea of acceleration manifests in a spooky, retro-futuristic staging of once cutting-edge sports cars, music and architectural forms.
