Bug Sounds / Vinyl Canyon

Program text

The installation evolved out of an experiment in which parts of a transparent record are mounted in a slide projector and beetle antlers are used as a pickup. A microscope zooms into the fissured micro-landscape of the vinyl, which is animated into a pulsating image sequence, while repetitive musical patterns crystallise at the same time. It creates an interplay of sound and image recordings, a world of scratch noises and colour waves generated in the fusion of organic and inorganic materials.
