The Space Lady

Program text

Call it “primitive futurism,” says Susan Dietrich Schneider about her work. Since the early 70s she was busy as a street musician by the name of The Space Lady for about three decades. In 2013 her only cassette was re-released as an album; only after that did she start playing her first concerts in clubs. The Californian artist is almost 70 in the meanwhile, but her voice is still as clear as a bell. With a winged astronaut helmet on her head, she covers “Major Tom” by Peter Schilling and Steppenwolf’s “Born To Be Wild” and sings her own songs about the journey into space and the desire for enlightenment in the earthly world.
