Lawrence English is a musician (who collaborates with the likes of Xiu Xiu mastermind Jamie Stewart), curator, artist, and label head of Room 40. He describes himself as a “philosopher of listening” – and his harsh ambient works could quite indeed be interpreted as cognitive studies. His confident command of field recordings allows him to weave dense sound textures that unravel in another sphere of consciousness. Between memory and dream, the present and the remembered, his assemblages becomes vehicles for our imagination. Sublime, elegant, and ghostly as they cocoon our bodies.
